I'm making a thread, because this place is kind of slow.

I mean...they're all amazing genres (minus the H stuff), but I gotta go with SoL on the whole. As an adult, with adult stuff to do all the time, a cozy SoL is the perfect thing. Almost all my favorite shows fall under fantasy or scifi tho lol.

I picked SciFi because I can (and will) rewatch Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell, and Full Metal Panic, and Vivy: Flourite's Eyes Song over and over and over again. But on the whole I watch way more SoL as an adult too. There's just something so refreshing about a good does of the comfies. I could never get into SoL. I find it hard to be engaged by it. Is there a certain thing that "hooks" you for it? It's just comfortable to be able to enjoy nothing. There's no big crisis, there's no world in trouble. You're just watching the mundane lives of endearing characters. SoL lets you look at the world through tinted glasses and see a bit of yourself and your friends in it. It's a genre to laugh, to get teary, to feel all those feelings you had as a kid again without all the nonsense of modern life.

I didn't really have friends, not good ones, as a kid. So, maybe that's why SoL doesn't really speak to me. Would you say it's more of a pleasant pseudo-nostalgia trip?

Reality is absolute dogshit, and we need a dose of something comfy these days. SoL and CGDCT really scratch that for me.

I didn't either, but that may be why I like it. A glimpse of what could have been, and it fills me with joy. Also- the aforementioned "comfy escapism" angle.

What would you say is the best one for someone trying to get into it? Would you say K-ON is king, or maybe something more like Haruhi? I saw Haruhi waaaay back in '06, but it mostly wasn't my thing.

K-On is great, but Yuru Camp is kind of the big king right now. It's ridiculously comfy (seriously). Comfy CGDCT would be Girls Und Panzer. Just my $0.02

Girly Action Anime It's not magical girl. It's not CGDCT. It's action anime where the main cast doing the action are girls. Why? Because it's all kinds of badassery while still being cute. Like:
