I find it good to remove those distractions. It's one reason I stopped using a smartphone quite some time ago. It's not that it's a distraction, but that it's a meaningless distraction, just filling peaceful moments with fluff.

I didn't have a smartphone , just a normal pocket phone for a long time until my wife asked I get one to be able to DM With me. Maybe the trick of X is that they tried to deplatform the conservatives and that didn't work so now they are trying to keep us busy with this kind of fluff as you say. It is not even fun like gaming is. On another note, I reread the Hexenhamer and if you read between the lines, and other works from 1500-1700 on witchcraft it is fascinating because it reveals some shocking/interesting facts, namely: 1. Many men would make false promises that they would marry a girl, have sex with her and then dump her for a more sensible girl and marry the latter. This understandably left the first, less sensible girl angry. 2. The people, especially some women, knew a lot of herbal remedies, but also contact poisons, abortifacients, mixtures that caused impotence, and hallucinogens. That is actually what most whitchcraft was about, like Revelation states: a wicked pharmacopoeia. Most of these are now lost to history, probably because the herbs involved died out. 3. The I angry girls from point 1. would often use the drugs from point 2. to get back at the man who svorned them, or at his new wife , or children , or at other people they disliked, becoming witches, that is poisoners. 4. Abortion and infanticide were everywhere and said witches would often pose as a midwife to abort and or kill children, with or without the approval of the parents. 5. Many parents, if they had a fussy or handicapped child, would sneak into the neighbors house and swap thr child with a less fussy one of about the same age. This phenomenon was called "wisselkind" and is even referred to in fairy tailes. 6. Some smart scoundrels would pretend to be the Devil and get a lot of free sex, food and worship from it from said witches, then abscond when the plot was about to come out. 7. Whether there was any direct involvement of the Devil is hard to say, but he didn't really need to. A lot of harm was done by these witches using their poisons, and by men pretend to be him.

Interesting stuff. Do you have any specific authors you can recommend on the subject? It sounds like a neat read.

Well the Hexenhamer is online for starters. I also read an English vicar's of around 1600 writing about it but I forgot his name. Have to search more for that. sacred-texts.com/pag/mm/index.htm

I'd be most interested in reading transcripts/documents made at the time. The closer to the time of these things the better. That way, you get the best contexts. As you know, primary/secondary sources are best.

You might like this one then. It was written by the king of Scotland himself. Especially the second part is fascinating because it seems some people were plotting against said king with some strange occurrances involved. Of course confessions under torture are unreliable, but there are a few remarkable points. Not wanting to be too rationalistic, but it seems someone who hated the king to pretend to be the Devil, and got a lot of people involved as "witches" in the plot. www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/25929/pg25929-images.html

Of course, there's skepticism on any ebook version of something as to its authenticity, but it may still be an interesting read. It's nice getting the accounts of what they saw and heard, unfiltered by "corrections" in history.

Well the digitizers are able to censor but in is case it seems they didn't. Screenshots of the original are available.

I'm not concerned about the whole poisoning thing. Many women are all talk. I assume it may happen once, the woman gets arrested, and that's the end of it. Someone may do it, though.
You can get some good stuff on archive. It's where I read Luther's "The Jews and their Lies," and found that people were just lying about his position.
