Also, I dropped Freezing season 2 6 episodes in. They had a somewhat interesting conspiracy plot going. Then it was dropped for a multi-episode recap of Satellizer's trauma. That story is okay in itself, but it's majorly detracting from the plot. One episode would be fine, but taking 3-4 out of a 12 episode season is way too much.

I never said it was good (4/10 below average), but I didn't drop it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It had a better "end" than S1 when it got back on the darker stuff. You even get to see prez open her eyes!

I was iffy on S2 in general. S1 was really good, though. 2 just felt really off. I understand it was based on a manga based on season 1. So, it makes sense that the tone is really weird. They kept showing butt-shots of the older brother. That, combined with the drop in plot quality, I was out.

It happens often that the anime is made when the manga gets popular but before the manga is complete. The result is often an anime that starts great with the manga material but then suddenly gets a weird ending or weird continuation that doesn't match the manga. They ran out of source material and had to improvise. It rarely gives a good result, though.
Way back when I bought the anime of Fruits Baseket but compared to the manga the ending is too sudden. The manga works a lot better. It isn't nice but it is due to economic factors. They don't want to wait until the manga is done because that may take years and then the opportunity for the anime has passed as well.

Then, a manga adaptation was made, and the second season was based on manga material.

Yeah, it also happens that they make an anime first, and then a manga based on that. In that case the anime does tend to be better than the manga.
And then there are video games based on an anime or manga. Which are also often not so good.
In general the original work, be it manga, anime or a game, is better than the derivatives.

TBH, I like the Hellsing anime more than the manga/Ultimate version. While the Ultimate version is more complete, I think it lacks the soul of the anime. FMA is a toss-up for me. Both are good. While Soul Eater is less complete as an anime, it at least wraps up without dragging on too long.

I decided to try the flavor of the month, Shikanoko Nokokoko Koshitantan. I was hesitant, but thought perhaps it could be another Sabagebu: Survival Game Club, Excel Saga, or even a Kill la Kill. They did weird, frantic, and funny really well.
Shikanoko Nokokoko Koshitantan was not like any of them. I found Shikanoko (character) to be generally unfunny and unlikable. It also had the aspect of lingering on jokes, as if to say, "Look how funny this is!" Maybe it's the timing, or that the humor is entirely focused on liking a single character and Koshi's reaction to her.
It strikes me that the people who like this are the type who like to watch reaction videos. Most humor revolves around Koshi's reactions to Shikanoko's weirdness, which really just means every joke lasts twice as long as it should. In general, I just found myself bored with it. I even checked how much longer was left around the 19-20 minute mark.
I don't think it's terrible. It's just that when a comedy doesn't land with your taste, it falls hard.
As I've seen some others mention, it seems like a lot of interconnected jokes that are just built to be meme-able/clipped. Perhaps that, which makes it all feel so "soulless" to me. Look at reviews and see how many positive ones use the exact same phrases- the intro repeated, "brainrot anime," or "absolute cinema." It all feels like manufactured "anime-slop."

I was like "WTF is that? never heard of it" ... I see why, it's new airing now. I still haven't finished last season yet. Also by the cover image, looks like a pass. (yes I choose to watch anime if the image looks cool)

The general look of the anime is pretty plain. I assume it's getting shilled here and there, or Gen Alpha just absolutely loves it. I've seen it described as Nichijou without heart (and I didn't care for Nichijou outside of the first 6 episodes or so).
So, it's a pass for me.
Also, a good aesthetic is important to an anime.

Ramen Akaneko - Comfy slice of life about a ramen diner run by cats with the human MC / standin for the viewer being fussed over. Also weirdly enough has no sponsor and gets a "bump" by TBS after the news.
My Wife Has No Emotion - It's a picture of me. Or as the husband has called it, "Chobits but without the obvious sex stuff."
Sakuna - Never played the game but the anime is about a smug anime girl so 10/10 from me. I live for smug anime girls.
Senpai Is An Otokonoko - 2 episodes in, recommend 100%.Or as the husband said, "Oh, you like an anime where the kohai aggressively pursues her sempai?" (He's younger than I am.)
Also Toonami is showing Sailor Moon and DBZ Kai, so I'm taping those. I'm also capturing raw off air recordings of Gundam Wing from 30 year old VHS tape.

It seems like a very slice of life season, no?

Macross (yes, finally watching the original) Pretty solid below-average anime (4/10) considering its age. ADMIN NOTE: Oh crap. I just edited your post instead of replying. My mistake. Long story short, you thought Macross was okay for it's time and Max was an absolute man to pick up a green alien wife.

Long story short, you thought Macross was okay for it's time and Max was an absolute man to pick up a green alien wife. I should have noticed the edit button is right next to the quote for me. Sorry. I like original Macross. I think it's more of a military drama at times than pure mecha, focusing largely on the drama of the Zentradi. I'd give it like a 9/10, aside form the last 15 episodes or so, which feel tacked on. I'm curious what you'd think of Frontier, which seems like a redo of SDF in a lot of ways.
