I'm pretty against using CGI on the whole. The same goes for 2D models (often seen on the Western side of things). I think when you lose the stretch, the unrealism, of hand-drawn animation, it loses its character and liveliness.
Models just feel so wooden. Expressions tend to feel flat. If you notice, in a lot of Western movies using CGI, the models are all very stretchy and malleable. They get it. The Japanese do not seem to get that- perhaps because we've been at it so much longer. Though, some amateurs get it (thinking of Milky Highway, which seems Dreamworks-inspired). It feels more like slamming dolls against each other than actual battles and people.
So, in short, that JJK clip did bother me a bit. The cinematography was also jank. That was just one fight, though. It may not be representative. It was Sukuna and Jogo.

Like I said: traditional hand drawn will always be it for me. it may be a long time before we ever get a Tenshi no Tamago or Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust again, if ever. But some of the stuff the bigger studios are doing is done really well in a lot of ways, so I let it go. Life is too short to get pissy about some things, IMHO. Yeah the Sukuna/Jogo fight was...alright. There's some much better ones throughout the show. Gotta be honest, though...in terms of modern animation styles, AoT kinda takes the cake, with Demon Slayer a close second for me. As much as I love Fate/UBW, Fate/Zero, and Heaven's Feel....they're all just a little TOO cgi for me (even though I watch them). Demon Slayer felt a little more traditional; I think ufoTable got their bearings with that one, a nice balance. Ofc all this is subjective. My opinion is probably trash hahaha.

I can watch the occasional piece of 3DCG, but not a whole series. AoT looked pretty good. It's obvious they dumped SO much money into it, though (and it shows). It's CG actually looks decent.
I do mostly watch 80s and 90s anime. I hope that's not me being in too much of a bubble. I did watch Tanya the Evil and thought it looked good. Though, that didn't have too much CG. I could probably put up with it if there were a good story, but there's so much trash out there- or what seems like trash.

There's some decent shows in recent memory though, you just have to wade through the market oversaturation to find them. Most modern shows I tend to enjoy are actually more in the "romance" genre, like Horimiya and Toradora (my wife's favorite). I tend to look at the studios these days, then make a determination there. I follow KyoAni, ufoTable, Pierrot, MAPPA, CloverWorks, and Trigger. Aniplex is SUPER hit or miss for me, even though they can pump out some big series. WIT Studios did a really good job with AoT, but I'm not super familiar with the rest of their catalog. And FWIW: idc what anyone says, Cyberpunk Edgerunners was fucking fantastic, both in animation quality and story.

I should probably try Edgerunners. I've heard nothing but good things about it. As far as studios go, I'm not really up on any in particular. With Trigger, it's hit and miss for me- mostly miss. Sometimes I look at directors to see what other series they made, or at who wrote the original story. For me, that tells me so much more.

I'll look up the IP too and read about it, how many copies it's sold, how long it is, etc. Yeah Trigger is very hit or miss, but Edgerunners was absolutely SUBLIME. It absolutely deserved all the accolades it got.

I forgot that it was them. Franxx disappointed me, but Ican give this a shot. IDK much about the source material, but I'm sure they'll explain everything needed.
As far as Trigger goes, I liked KLK, FLCL, PSG, and the first have of Gurren Lagann.
I wasn't a fan of Dead Leaves, Franxx, or Eva.

Playing the game isn't a prerequisite, so you should be good (it's a prequel to the game anyway). With Trigger...yeah...that's a respectable list. Eva, tho...assuming you meant Evangelion...they didn't do that. They did SSSS.Gridman, which had thighlicious character designs, but not much else going for it. Little Witch Academia was a pleasant series, one my daughter loved when she was little. And Delicious In Dungeon is turning out to be solid too. I actually enjoyed FRANXX, tho. I see what people mean about the second half of the season going off the rails, but overall I enjoyed it for what it was. I still haven't seen the Promare movie they did (been on my list). And BNA was actually pretty good. As a graphic designer, I liked the color choices and contrast in the animation.

By Eva, I did mean Evangelion. I saw the first one and liked about half of it.
As far as LWA goes I've heard good things. From what I've heard, it's basically good is you just want more Harry Potter, since it borrows so heavily from it.
Edgerunners gets a lot of buzz. So, I might give it a shot. Plus, I think any 3DCG would lend itself well to the style. Maybe I can try it this weekend. I have a lot of shows, but not a lot of new ones.

Yes, most anime is garbage.
My overall drop rate is 43%.
Current season drop rate is 6 watching (2 continuing) 10 dropped = 63% dropped. This seems pretty typical for seasonals. I don't even bother to try all of them either. It's also pretty rare for the few I do watch to break out of the "average" zone (4-6 on a scale of 10).
Metallic Rouge is the first seasonal anime in a while that I'm actually looking forward to each episode. Even then it's 6-7/10 range, so still pretty far from great, but plenty good enough.

Is this a consistent drop rate, or does it increase/decrease over time?

I'm following Urusei Yatsura and Metallic Rouge this season.
UY: General slapstick comedy anime with fantastic elements. Heavily recommended.
Metallic Rouge: It just keeps getting weirder.

I've heard enough buzz about MR that I feel like I need to at least check it out. It looks like maybe it's a scifi? Is that accurate?

Definitely accurate, it's got xenos and androids and androids made from xeno tech.

I watched the first couple episodes and they were pretty good. IDK how well the characters well gel. However, if the narrative is good, it'll be right up my alley. It's rare to get a good ground-level scifi anime.
It might be one of those I enjoy watching even if it has no lasting impact. I'm also totally prepared for the handler to possibly be a secret robot/Nean.
In some ways, it feels like a love letter to Battle Angel.
