She looks foxy, though. I guess throwing in a few raccoon girls is okay. I feel like they'll give me rabies, though.

Hahahahaha kek. Just a buncha old weebs "back in MY day you had to ship VHS tapes with like 3 episodes on them across the country, and wait six months or more for the next three episodes! We didn't have any of this "streaming" nonsense" "AND FANSUBS RULED THE WORLD" It's not just me, right? This just feels hyper-cozy. For me, it was like you met up with a room of people to watch anime- none of which you ever even slightly heard about, unless they were doing Sailor Moon or something. That was 2005 or so. Yeah exactly. I still love Telegram, and I have my own weeb chat there and a few other great channels I follow, and I joined WC there too, but I'll keep up with this. The old school coziness factor is making this oldfag schizo weeb happier than Umaru-chan at home on a day off with zero obligations.

We wasted so much time trying to genetically engineer catgirls when we could have made foxgirls. Not to be THAT guy, but ACKSHUALLY it's Raphtalia, a raccoon girl from Shield Bro. Not to sound Boomer-ish, but I just can't stand a lot of modern anime. A lot of 3DCG animation is just cheap and jank. Dragonball Superhero was pretty good, though. It was pretty smooth, and they put a lot of effort into it. It just lacked the emotional punch. Attachments:

I watch a lot of shows, but I'm choosy about what I DL and keep. I'm not a HUGE fan of most modern anime. It feels like the soul has been stripped from the animation, it's too crispy and clean. Early 00's was the last great era of animation.

Noticed in the profile settings you can add signatures....I completely forgot about sig banners from the old boards. Gotta design something badass, now.

You get some truly amazing character writing. 90s has the best animation, but plots tended to be paper-thin. 70s and 80s were just pure hype and let them kill kids. Stuff like Berserk (manga), FotNS, and Macross just really rocked my socks off.

You had a GREAT combo of impeccable storytelling and creativity with ridiculously detailed and amazing animation. Genocyber is one of those I love from that era. I remember watching Slayers and Slayers Next on the International Channel when I was a kid (Sunday night was anime night). Lodoss War was one of those that REALLY solidified my love for fantasy, and I still have a soft spot for Sekai no Senki (reading the original LN series right now).

FANSUBS still rules the world. I get all my subs from fans because I get all my anime from torrents. It's just the best way to do it. And if it's only old farts like us? Well then it will be even more comfy I guess. For sure. I have a CR membership, but it's to basically check out the new seasonals, see what's shit what's worth it, and then I hit Nyaa for my torrents (have a 4tb HD a little over half-filled with animu, but I'm about to buy a 10tb). Interesting that CR announced they'll be using more AI based translations starting this year. I just wait for Gigguk to upload his "everything you need to know about [x] season anime" and pick what I'll check out from that. I try to be a season behind so that I'm not waiting on a weekly drop like I am with Frieren, that slut! [trying embedding image] tenor.com/bA76EF5Mdya.gif

I don't know Gigguck. I take it he's an anime YT guy? I find it rare to see people who don't jump on whatever the recent hype train is.

As far as episode tests go, 3 is pretty solid. I first bounced off of Jojo due to the first 2 episodes being kind of plain before it ramped up in ep 3. However, if a series truly sucks, 3 episodes can feel like far too many. Oddly, I've seen someone espouse a 1-episode test. Perhaps a "percentage" test is better. Though, I've seen amazing first halves be decimated in the second half.

Yeah Gigguk has pretty trash taste, but his reviews give me a good idea of what is out that I might enjoy.
I don't think I've ever made it to the 3rd episode of a show I've dropped. I can usually tell if I'm going to enjoy it by the first.

I also do my research into studios, source material, chara-designers, seiyuu, etc. My family has designated me King Weeb, and everyone knows I'm the guy to talk to about what's good. My daughter has her friends ask me for recc's, family members, etc. It's kinda funny....being niche famous all because I had no friends growing up and spent the last 20 years watching Japanese cartoons and following the industry bc I'm a fuckin loser lol.

Sometimes they trick you. Like the one with the girl who is Nyarlethotep. It seems like a comedy for 5 episodes, then BAM! It's suddenly a romance.
