Yeah Gigguk has pretty trash taste, but his reviews give me a good idea of what is out that I might enjoy. I don't think I've ever made it to the 3rd episode of a show I've dropped. I can usually tell if I'm going to enjoy it by the first. I've been watching long enough that I'm this way too. I also do my research into studios, source material, chara-designers, seiyuu, etc. My family has designated me King Weeb, and everyone knows I'm the guy to talk to about what's good. My daughter has her friends ask me for recc's, family members, etc. It's kinda funny....being niche famous all because I had no friends growing up and spent the last 20 years watching Japanese cartoons and following the industry bc I'm a fuckin loser lol. >The balls to let your family know you're a weeb. Yeah Gigguk does YT vids for every season and he's generally never wrong. I always give a show the three episode test: if it's shit in 3, it's shit in 12. First, absolutely sick signature. As far as episode tests go, 3 is pretty solid. I first bounced off of Jojo due to the first 2 episodes being kind of plain before it ramped up in ep 3. However, if a series truly sucks, 3 episodes can feel like far too many. Oddly, I've seen someone espouse a 1-episode test. Perhaps a "percentage" test is better. Though, I've seen amazing first halves be decimated in the second half. Thanks man! I'm feelin old school nostalgiac so why not. I'll probably make a Beserk and a Gundam one, too. I don't mind tossing some together for the frens here too, if people want it. Yeah I've started and not even finished E01 on some shows and knew it was garbage. And bc of the absolute state of the industry, most of those trash shows get multiple seasons (*cough*Isekai wa SumÄtofon to Tomo ni*cough*). Sometimes trash shows, like By The Grace of the Gods, can be comfy when you don't give a fuck about saving the world and need to rest your brain. |

I still hide it. Nigga my wife and kid watch anime with me, we're in the middle of like 6 shows right now together. My wife is about to start reading a new manga series on her own (without ANY prompting from me!!), and my youngest daughter is named after the MC from Howl's Moving Castle. My 35sqft "office" has 2 small walls covered in weebshit and I have Gundams everywhere on my bookshelves. My wife even hung up my two katana on the wall in our bedroom. We're a full on weeb family, my dude. I'm the weeb "idgaf velcro shoes grandpa" lol. I've stopped caring who knows what I like and don't like. |

My oldest is about to be a teenager, so she finds shows and binges like I used too back in the day. Although she's growing up, so her tastes are changing for sure. She doesn't want all the weeb posters on her walls anymore lol. My two youngest, 3 and 2, like to watch when I have it one bc it's different than Bluey and old Disney films. Although they BOTH absolutely LOVE Ghibli films. Each kid has their own favorite film with blankets, plushies, and collectible backpacks to match. My wife finds these cute classy things for the girls that are still nerdy to make me happy. I'm definitely blessed beyond what I deserve that's for sure. |
