"Breather episode" just seems like a way to say that they advanced the plot too quickly. That, or some serious stuff is about to go down. Yes. It was a very okay episode. I feel like her "sister" was out of character.

sure acted like it lol, luka is BEST GIRL (also I can't multiquote for some reason, likely due to me being fat and retarded, especially fat) At no point did Ruka act like a troon. Ruka did not dress up like a girl in order to spend time "mentoring young girls" or "breaking into female industries" or "trick men into railing him up the bumb". The entire point of his character arc was accepting that "Lukako is Lukako", and that he didn't have to change himself. Additionally, his female attire and gentle demeanour is due to his overbearing father and his messed-up upbringing. Basically, Luka's issues stem from a mixture of confusing emotions, problematic upbringing, a selfish elder sister and a pressuring father rather than an inherent sense of being in the wrong body. While it might be a fairly accurate backstory to why people become faggots and why faggots pretend to be girls (abused by parents, selfish female role model, expectations of duty) the character is not a troon. (to multiquote you have to either type it in manually or do it from the reply page) I don't think that backstory was covered in the anime... maybe because it was unnecessary. It's not hard to accept that the character is born male in one timeline and female in another.

I watched Wicked City this evening. Overall, I liked it even if the characters and story were a tad flat. It was obviously very influential. I saw a number of things that inspired Devil May Cry.
I'm not opposed to sex and nudity in my anime, but I do feel some of this was really too much for the story. In particular, the tentacle throat-fucking scene would have been embarrassing if I were watching it with anyone else.
In general, it's difficult to find much bad to say about it. I'd give it a 6.5/10. Better than just being okay, but nothing exceptionally great. It strikes me as the type of thing you'd love if you love Digital Devil Story.

I'm sure we've all watched something when the artist's uncomfortable fetish suddenly shows up. It's just more prevalent in anime.

I think, this weekend, I'm going to just slam through most of a rewatch of Psycho Pass, because it's been a while since I've seen it. Also, I love Philip K Dick, which Psycho Pass was heavily inspired by (The Minority Report in particular).
I think I may also want to try reading a bit of Sarai (The Battle Maid), which Touhou heavily rips off...unless someone can tell me it's not worth reading.

What does it do, suddenly turn into yuri? It's an extremely lewd, BDSM fetish magical girl story. It flips the genre itself on its head a bit, not as successfully as Madoka Magica did, but man...the absolute lewdness is what turns me off to it. It's definitely "author's fetish" territory.

I get that being a turn off. Sometimes fan service can really go too far when you're mainly watching something for the (actual) plot. It also makes it hard to recommend things.

Well...I don't mind lewd things/fan service, especially if its for comedic value. Most anime I grew up watching had that (not even DB/DBZ was immune to it). The problem I have with "Gushing Over Magical Girls" is the fact that they're all 14 year olds, in that BDSM spotlight. It's REALLY uncomfortable, plus the extreme yuri-bait. I don't mind a story that flips a genre on its head (Madoka Magica is one of my favorite shows of all time), nor do I mind fan service, and I can even forgive a little yuri-bait if the story is damn good and it's outweighed by all the other elements firing on all cylinders. "Gushing" doesn't do any of that. It literally exists as a fetish vehicle for the author; there's literally nothing of substance worth sitting through all of that for, IMHO. YMMV, though. PS: it sucks, too, bc the character designs and artwork can be really solid at times, especially in the manga. Ah well...whatever. Nothing of value is really lost.

I looked up a basic image from the anime. At least they're "anime 14," that is to say they at least look much older than they are. I take it that only makes it slightly less weird.

Gushing over Magical Girls is not something you watch for the plot. You watch it for the "plot". ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ... it's just sometimes... uncomfortable to watch. (half way through... I wonder/fear what horrors will be in the 2nd half)
