I get that being a turn off. Sometimes fan service can really go too far when you're mainly watching something for the (actual) plot. It also makes it hard to recommend things. Gushing over Magical Girls is not something you watch for the plot. You watch it for the "plot". ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ... it's just sometimes... uncomfortable to watch. (half way through... I wonder/fear what horrors will be in the 2nd half) I picked an episode and went to a random point. They were bound and getting spanked. I have to say, the general character design is pretty great.

It's been on my list since forever. Kind of like Ergo Proxy (except I actually watched it fully when it came out, never finished my recent rewatch).

I'm planning to go through all 22 episodes this week (have a lot of free time). It's pretty great if you like good hard sci-fi. It has a great soundtrack, too. I tried Ergo Proxy, but gave it up after a few episodes. Maybe I should try it again.

Good esoteric cyberpunk. Yeah I liked what I saw of Psycho-Pass, but just...need to find the time. There's a couple movies too, right? Not including compilation film(s)?

I think there are 3 seasons and a movie or two. However, the first season is all you should watch. The first season is amazing. The second season is somewhere between kind of bad and bad. I can't say anything about the movies, though. It's one of those things that seems like it was only ever intended to be a single season, but then it was very popular.

Finished catching up on JJK, really solid. Started rewatching Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress with my wife and kid (my 3rd time, daughter's 2nd, wife's 1st). Such an underrated gem, IMO. Shame it never got a second season after the film.

It might just be that it was the popular style at the time.

It might just be that it was the popular style at the time. It was the character designer from Gunbuster, Macross, Gundam 0080. The show actually predates Demon Slayer by 3 years (released in 2016), made by WIT Studio who originally worked on Attack on Titan before that shifted over to MAPPA. WIT was started by ex-Production IG employees, though, which explains why Kabaneri looks SO MUCH like the anime cutscenes from the Sakura Wars franchise. That was ultimately what got me interested in it in 2017, the look being so similar to those games. I recc it, if you're into samurai-style shows. It's set in feudal Japan, during the industrial age, with an interesting take on zombies. Reminds me a small bit of Empire of Corpses in that regard, but more "Attack on Titan" like (read: mainstream) and FAR less philosophical.

Maybe. I haven't seen any actual samurai shows aside from 1969's Dororo. I imagine it's largely the same, with the wandering samurai being moody and fighting people (tropes are tropes).

Oh no this isn't like that AT ALL. Like...nowhere close. haha That's my bad...i shouldn't have said "samurai style". It's just set in the end of that period of time, so they're there....fighting zombies and stuff. It's basically Snowpiercer meets zombies in Feudal/Industrial Revolution era Japan. Less "Snowpiercer-humanity's struggles on a train", though.

There's a movie? I should watch that sometime... Oh! First 2 movies are recap of the TV show, 3rd is new. Wonder if the movies are the better way to watch... (already seen TV) I've heard nothing but good things about JJK. I know it's really popular right now. The art style of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress really makes me think of Demon Hunter. I'm only a couple episodes from watching the entirety of Psycho Pass in 4 days. It's really up there in my favorite scifi anime. It's different, but I would put it on par with Lain.
EDIT: Finished it again, and what a great ride it was.
